Cal already gets 20% from renewables and another 20% from hydropower.

Closer to 15% each and the one operating nuclear plant contributes that much all by itself. Seems the only energy source showing significant growth has been natural gas over the last decade. Wind and solar are almost not worth mentioning - geothermal contributes more than twice them combined.
