A gay rights advocate who worked for the San Francisco Human Rights Commission before retiring in 2010 was arrested Friday in connection with felony possession of child pornography, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The report said that Larry Brinkin, 66, allegedly had pornographic images that appeared to show children as young a one and two years old performing sex acts on grown men in email messages linked to an IP address associated with an AOL email account registered to his name.

Authorities were contacted by AOL after the Internet company suspected child pornography, the report said.

Police executed a search warrant Friday and removed two laptops, videos and other memory devices from his home, the report said.

"The district attorney's office is taking the case very seriously," Alex Bastian, a spokesman told FoxNews.com. "We are waiting for computer forensic evidence to be analyzed so we can make a proper charging decision."

The report points out that Brinkin was known for his push for equal rights for gays and lesbians, which prompted the Board of Supervisors to declare Feb. 1, 2010, "Larry Brinkin Week."

He filed the country’s first domestic partnership lawsuit in 1982, The San Francisco Examiner reported. He currently has a longtime partner and teenage son, the report said.

Brinkin did not respond to requests for comment from the Chronicle. He reportedly posted bail on Saturday."
