In my opinion nuclear energy is very clean ! It is the most reasonable solution to reliable clean energy. It is not corn and wind mills, or solar panels. Maybe not yet. Maybe because we still don't have very efficient ways to store energy, but sooner or later people come to realize if something is not reasonable. Nuclear is the cheapest most reliable of electric energy so far. It is very unreasonable to give it up before you have discovered anything better.
I have enormous respect for the Geraman and Japanese people and they have the discipline to replace it, but they are starting to realize it is not beneficial. I saw a Bill Gates TED video about a new technology that entirely burns all the nuclear waste and produces more energy. If Germany grows 4% per year I believe they will need about 30% more energy net in 10 years.
