I don't think wcom and mci are seriously entertaining purchasing
gateways at this time....they are interested in making money from
the fax business using their own network (UUNET) and having the
technology to go off the network when necessary. This is where
the business applications are, this is what does not necessitate
additional purchases of hardware, and this is a huge market ready
to be transformed from traditional telco to data services today. The
technology, as I have mentioned before, comes from Open Port Technology.
This company will go public next year and is one to watch in the
messaging over internet space. As far as I know, this is the only
company that can complete internet faxes with the scalability required
by a carrier and with many other value-added features. Open Port
Technology is the leader in the internet fax market. So far they
are the only one to sell carrier-enabled solutions.
