AT&T Corp. (T) 56 +1/2: Sands Brothers initiates coverage of major telecommunications company with a "strong
buy" rating.....

AT&T CORP. (T) 56 +1/2. Shares of telecommunication giant are again moving
higher, this time because the
company is planning to sell its paging unit with more than 1.2 million customers.
According to a New York
Times article, AT&T has decided to sell its paging unit for as much as $450 million.
Since naming a new CEO,
Michael Armstrong to replace outgoing chairman and CEO Robert Allen, the company
has begun to conduct a
self-examination of its various operating units, willing to discard non-core divisions
in an effort to
rebuild a leaner and more responsive corporation than in the past.. Given the need to
react much more
quickly in the fast changing world of telecommunications, investors have taken note
and started to buyback AT&T
shares. Accordingly, the stock has enjoyed a revival after underperforming the
market the past two
years when the stock traded above $60 a share. Since the injection of new blood into
the executive suite, the
stock has appreciated by 65% since mid-July, with much of the gains coming from
September to the present,
when the stock traded around $40 a share.
