The financial services industry helps match capital with investment needs. And yes it helps match you capital (assuming you are invested at all), and mine as well. The hedge fund industry is a subset of that. We might not invest in hedge funds, but I see no reason why any investment vehicle that neither you or I invest in should be outlawed, or be the target for tax increases or other attacks.

How do you know it includes investment in productive industries?

Because such funds invest in many areas, including industries that produce goods and services.

Why are so many hedge funds headquartered off shore in tax havens..?

I'm not their tax adviser, or manager. Maybe because of our high corporate taxes.
