Most videos that can be added to an iTunes library can be streamed directly from the PC to an AppleTV. I believe Apple still calls that "AirPlay."
There is one specific thing I want to be able to do, and AirPlay doesn't let me. I want to be able to stream Amazon Prime video from my Mac to the TV. The Apple TV supports Netflix natively, so that's no problem. I know I could get a Roku box for sixty clams, and it would stream the Amazon stuff. I may end up doing that.
