S.I. Member’s Portfolio versus Buffett Portfolio. Sergio H has suggested putting a 10 stock portfolio together based on the suggestions and selections from S.I. members. The performance of this portfolio would be compared, on a regular basis, to the current 10 stock Buffett Portfolio that I put together at the end of September 2011. Once we start the comparison the price performance of all stocks will commence from the same date. We see this as a Group challenge of S.I. vs. Buffett, not as an individual challenge. I will put the final selection in my Board’s Header so that it’s on regular display. We are looking for stocks based on the ‘Buy and Hold’ principle, similar to Buffett’s general investment style. These should be stocks that you would consider putting in your longer term portfolio and stocks that would conform to your definition and understanding of “Value”. It would also be of interest to know on what basis you made your stock selection. We will not include penny stocks or ‘mo picks’. We’ll give this a two week start up period in order to gather selections from contributors. Should we receive more than 10 stocks we’ll let participants vote on the most popular 10 picks by posting each candidate on a separate post and a vote can be entered by recommending that post. In this two week period we can also consider stock selection parameters that readers could put forward. In conclusion, we will not accept stocks that are currently included in Buffett’s own stock holdings as we are trying to compare the performances of “Value” stock choices of SI members against those of Warren Buffett.
