Automobile technology has come a long way. The hidden benefits were mtbf(mean time before failure) improvements of tune up using electronic ignition system. It often lasts 70,000 miles. spark plug electrodes got eroded and car still runs.

Brakes have better brake pads using better metallic material to last longer,

Engine oil is now synthetic(corn oil). and its high temperature last longer.

Tire design has improved. Thread has slots to help cool the rubber surface. Steel belted rubber casing last longer. Low profile tires however give good ride with struts because if its light weight. Its thin walls are rather fragile though. Tires last longer using snow tire threads.

Air conditioning equipment use coolant with oil to lubricate the compressed to last longer.

Most of the longer life is measured by service free mileage using your old car.

So, it seemed to be a smart move, buying the oldest car and restored for trouble and service free 70,000 miles.

Restoration then is an insurance policy rather than keep it running repairs. It often drives or handles much better with planned tire purchase for performance handling.
