We'd be able to engage in a lot more trade, more jobs, better prosperity.
Makes me wonder how you feel about the police who guard your local neighborhood. Think there would be more peace and economic progress if all that money wasn't wasted on hiring police?
I know this is a fruitless exercise.. but exactly HOW DO YOU FIGURE we'd have more trade if we didn't have a Navy that would enforcing Maritime Law??
You pay attention to what's going on with Somali piracy?
You have any understanding as to what's been going on in the Spratly's,.. smack dab in the middle of the South China Sea, where a huge portion of maritime trade occurs?
And the Straits of Malacca, until recent years, was a huge nexxus for piracy..

If we didn't have a military presence in these regions, engaged in enforcement, as well as TRAINING (and even more important, the professionalization of these foreign military forces), this piracy would remain state sponsored.
Economic progress CANNOT occur where rule of law is ignored, and social order does not exist. And police enforce it domestically, while our military enforce it internationally.
And once again.. where was the economic prosperity for much of the world that once was under control of brutal totalitarian regimes? Where would Germany, and most of Europe, be had we not crushed the Nazis?
Russia? Eastern Europe? None of that would have happened had not the US and it's allies maintained a strong military. Hawk |
