Why didn’t Obama address the NAACP? Maybe he didn’t want to get booed.
by Marc Thiessen

The news is filled with reports of Mitt Romney’s speech at the NAACP, and how he was booed by the audience for promising to repeal Obamacare. In fact, Romney deserves credit for his willingness to reach across the aisle and engage a group that is obviously hostile to much of his agenda. Even the NAACP said he was “courageous” for coming.

But think for a moment: Can you imagine Barack Obama doing what Romney did – addressing, say, the Knights of Columbus, and delivering a bold defense of his HHS mandate? Not a chance he would ever do so.

In fact, President Obama wasn’t even willing to speak to the NAACP. He hasn’t addressed the NAACP since 2009.

Why didn’t Obama come to the NAACP and explain why the African-American unemployment rate is at 14.4% — nearly double the national rate? Why didn’t Obama come to the NAACP and explain why 2.6 million Americans have fallen beneath the poverty line since he took office? Why didn’t Obama come to the NAACP and explain his opposition to school choice, which is keeping young African-Americans trapped in failing public schools? Why didn’t Obama come to the NAACP and explain his newfound support for gay marriage?

I can virtually guarantee if the president had stood before that crowd and argued for gay marriage, every newspaper would have front-page stories about how Obama had been booed by the NAACP.

Maybe that’s why he didn’t show up, while Mitt Romney did.
