If memory serves me right....Some of the Components on some of those boards you like were used and were sold as new. I would not expect that to happen at HP or Compaq or IBM....

Yeah, we do get what we pay for. Do you really know what happens in this business? Two customers may buy the same board from a vendor and one will have much higher quality standards and has inspections at the plant of the vendor, etc. and one doesn't. Care to wager which customer gets boards of marginal quality? It isn't free, but there is a huge difference even if you see an identical PC board.
