Ramsey: Successful daytrading requires the ability to recognize and act on stock trading patterns. A daytrader will concentrate on stocks with high average daily volume, medium to large capitalization, and good volatility.

Long term investing requires the ability to recognize the intrinsic value of stocks and wait for the market to recognize it as well. Essentially investing in undervalued stocks.

Stocks in one category may or may not fall into both categories. Fundamental analysis has very limited value beyond a few simple screens for the daytrader.
