I did more research on CIEN and think its fine as a trading vehicle because of the sizable daily volume but would be very cautious about a long term investment. They bought nortel's optical business and have substantial debt. They also have a very large convertible issued and my past experience with companies that issue these leads me to expect unusually heavy downward pressures. I think they will survive but with so many other companies in the sector being sold off, I would look to other stocks if you want to invest in this industry!

Once again, we haven't seen a catalyst for the industry, so no rush to buy the sector unless you are short term trading.
