BREAKING..Samsung smartphone sales almost double the iPhone sales in Q2 2012

 Remember the days when all Android manufacturers combined couldn’t beat the iPhone sales? Believe it or not, that was only 2 years ago, in 2010. Then Android manufacturers finally beat Apple’s iPhone sales a little later that year, but we’re starting to see even single Android manufacturers selling almost twice as many devices in Q2 compared to Apple.
That manufacturer is, of course, Samsung, which lately has been riding a wave of huge successin the market. This is due to its Galaxy S flagship devices, and the halo effect those devices created around their cheaper devices as well. Last year, Samsung became both the global smartphone and cellphone market leader, overtaking Apple and also Nokia, which has been rapidly declining in market share ever since.
According to Reuters, which set-up a poll to predict how many smartphones sales both Apple and Samsung had in Q2 this year, Apple sold 30.5 million units last quarter, while Samsung sold almost twice as many, or over 50 million units.
“Samsung is expected to be the smartphone hero in the second quarter,” said IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo.
“We are also expecting to see the biggest smartphone volumes ever shipped from one single vendor in one quarter, driven by strong demand of the Galaxy portfolio, particularly the Galaxy S II and S III,” he said.
Samsung is also expected to have sold 15.7 million more units than Nokia in Q2 2012, compared to the same quarter of last year, when it only had an advantage of only 3.4 million units. The reports are definitely showing Samsung’s lead is increasing not only over other Android manufacturers, but over their biggest general competitors as well. |
