You use that argument again and again, and its just as weak this time as it was in the past. Government controls a lot, but there is a lot it doesn't control or have significant control over. And even if that wasn't the case, if it controlled 99% of 99% of things, that doesn't imply or suggest that keeping it from moving to 99.8% control over 99.8% of things would be a bad or useless idea.
I mention that reality again and again for a reason; the first things humans do when they get together, anywhere, is form a government to regulate human behavior, and to pool resources for the common good. It's what humans do, and we do it well. It's why we control the planet and how we manage to get along living one on top on the other the way we do.
Through your filter all new government regulation is bad; thus you look at Obama Care and imagine all the bad things that "could" happen. And I'm sure some bad things will happen, and we'll correct them.
Through my filter government regulation can be very good, as most that has stuck is very good. So Obama Care doesn't scare me, it's a slight, incremental, and long over due change to the way we as a society address our medical needs. Nothing near as radical as the European systems. Single payer, that might have me biting my nails a little. This? A walk in the park.
Government regulates everything you touch every day. I understand how that can be stifling, but get over it. We're doing OK as a species with our governments at every level; city, county, state, federal, world. All regulating, all the time, everything. it's what we do.
Lunging at the windmill of human nature isn't going to do you any good. |
