Hi there E_K_S. I can certainly see where you’re coming from in your comments and proposal, and as always, IMO, you’re positive and constructive.
I thought I’d put forward a few thoughts of my own in the context of your post ….
Yes, it would certainly be welcomed and probably helpful if a proposer of a stock put forward his/her reasons behind their choice.
But at the same time, there are probably as many differing stock selection criteria as there are contributing members. I suspect that each of us probably puts differing emphasis on why we would favour a stock, as well as what we would interrogate about a company in order to draw our own conclusions. Some would regard EV/EBITDA as important, others look at P/BK or P/S or DCF or forward P/E, or a combination of all, or some, of those, or several other criteria that I haven’t thought of, or considered !
In this challenge we have gone the route of “Democracy”, in terms of the stocks with the most votes are the ones that get chosen, with one or two provisos regarding sectors etc...
Now in any democratic voting arrangement there’s going to be agreements and disagreements. But at the end of the day the greatest number of votes win the day, whatever the reasons may have been behind those who voted for the same winner. They all came to the same conclusion but possibly for differing and varied reasons and from different “directions”.
I’d say that one of the main positives that will come out of this voting challenge would be the fact that the stocks that got the most votes probably did so because they satisfied more of that range of varied criteria and requirements than did the losers.
With regard to the “election of nominees” and “final vote”, we have made some revisions to our “Rules”.
By all means let us know what you think about them.
