Intelligence distribution in a population is roughly a bell curve around an average. Averages for men and women are roughly the same, but the men's bell curve has a higher variance (is fatter) than the women's. As a result, at the extremes of the curve, both left (extreme idiots) and right (extreme geniuses) there are more men than women. You can do a google search on this (intelligence distribution men women). There are many studies among college students, etc. A relatively small difference in variance results in big differences in the numbers at the extremes. The absolute numbers are of course very small. For example, one study shows that there are 2 times more men than women with IQs greater than 125, but 5 times more men than women with IQs greater than 150. When you get to extreme IQs like 180, perhaps Einstein level, the ratio is extremely lopsided, like more than 100 to 1. The same is true on the other side of the curve with far more extreme idiot men than women.

By the way, I agree with you that women in the modern world are probably at an advantage over men because of qualities other than intelligence. My own experience at IBM was that women managers were superior to men. Now IBM is headed by a woman, by the way.
