Advertising: I was flipping through"the physician and Sportsmedicine" journal and noticed an ad for Hyalgan the Sanofi 5 injection product. Actually they had two separate ads. One was 2 pages with a cartoon man sitting, starting to stand and then completing a golf swing. "Announcing a remarkable new alternative to NSAID therapy" "Now available NEW Hyalgan. With product info on the back. Their other ad was 4 pages with "For the pain of osteoaritis of the knee" Cartoon of seated to standing in four drawings. And the "Announcing..." line. Page 2 cartoons of walking on beach with woman, gardening, golfing, walking the dog, palying frisbee with kid. "A siongle course of treatment can relieve pain for 6 months" Page 3 - cartoon with three old cheerleaders with arms in the air. "Effective, long-lasting pain relief without NSAID-related side effects" "Proven in a 26 wk double blind randomized multicenter US trial of 495 patients with OA of the knee comparing Hyalgan with intra-articular saline and with oral naproxen." "Effective" (two more sentences - 5 lines) "Long-lasting" (three lines) "Novel viscoelastic modifying action" (three more lines) "10 years of clinical experience in approximately 1 million patients in 20 countries" * footnote data Page 4 Product INFO for MD's I looked for SYNVISC in the list of advertisers and there is was on p 15......blue grey background with: NOW AVAILABLE (appearance of fluid stream crossing the page) SYNVISC Hylan G-F 20 Developed and manufactured by Marketed and distributed by Biomatrix Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories (that was all - no product info, no use indications, nothing!)
