7/20/12 Contest Update The rain in Spain may lie mainly on the plain but it produced more than a bit of a drizzle on Wall Street today. And Friday’s drizzle washed out a big part of the gains stocks made earlier in the week. At Friday’s close the Contest median was up 36.01% YTD (vs. up 33.55% YTD a week ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 27.34% YTD (vs. up 26.32% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 12.29% YTD (vs. up 11.64% YTD a week ago). DONS’ portfolio, up 69.20% YTD, held on to first place. NP1986's portfolio, up 60.98% YTD, was boosted by its 15% ARRY allocation into second place and DOUGH’s portfolio, up 60.71% YTD, took over third place. At Friday's close, just 2 of the 38 Contest portfolios were still in the red and 21 of the 38 portfolios were beating the NBI. Plus, remarkably, there are 7 Contest portfolios with a YTD gain greater than 50% (including the portfolio of this humble scorekeeper). Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week. (Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables, when posted.) Portfolio adjustments: None. Have a glorious summer weekend biotechies! (All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
