I might decide to quibble with that at some point...

I'm not sure they can "stem" anything at this point... and it seems clear enough the pace of events is moving fast enough at this point that none of it will matter anyway if they don't make a go of what's in the pipeline now.

I'd want to think about it in context of 'future' rather than 'past' performance...

Perhaps the right approach would be for NOK to start over... and develop a brand NEW operating system... ?

The old Symbian wouldn't support the new generation tech features... would need a lot of work anyway...

The problem, still, is that you can't BEGIN to address the issue in any fashion as long as Elop refuses to throw MSFT under the bus, even if MSFT is perfectly willing to throw NOK under the bus... or, you know, does so simply out of neglect by ignoring the bus bearing down on little ole NOK while MSFT smiles and holds their hand...

Once we see what happens this fall... NOK's best chances for survival... oddly... may depend on failure enabling the RIGHT brand of change in the head office far more than anything else... and, I'd include in that change that might be occurring... change in the MSFT head office... which is long, long overdue...

I don't think MSFT can make Windows "cool"... even by spending a whole lot of money trying... but, I think if MSFT doesn't commit big $$$ to marketing in a way that supports their partners, and in a way that can at least posture some hope they're committed to shifting the balance in the competition in the future... then its already over.

Otherwise, perhaps I'm wrong about PRICING ?

Maybe NOK's best shot at survival is to under-price others with "same/similar" product... forcing the smartphone market into a mimic of what PC's became only as they began to become generic ? They might survive another product cycle... by becoming the "Gateway" of the smartphone market... particularly if the pace in adoption is able to be expanded enough through lower prices to have market impact on "share" because of the effort... while they cut the margins out from under their competitors ?
