I believe in both Free Will and Determinism. Deterministic cause and effect would only address contingent events in immediacy. However, when I plan something, say a year in advance (let us say building a fence and painting it purple), my thought (plan) then becomes the first link in a chain that has not yet occurred. And yet the chain (yet to be built) CAN lead to an Objective that did not rely on the original impulse or goal--because I can change my mind based on random throws of a dice and still make an infinite number of possible outcomes occur on demand.

The outcome of a dice throw is random regardless of the fact that it is determined. And this is the key. This breaks up the deterministic chain when we apply it to our little skit!

Thus, we DO all control our destiny to some great degree...and no amount of mumbo jumbo can rob me of myself!

Intuitively, we all know this and that is the basis for both Responsibility and Liability--something that I hope some are finally figuring out...EEEeeeKKK!!
