After decades of court rulings that the second amendment was never intended as a mass arming of the populace, the right has convinced Americans that toting a gun is a democratic right.
I share your concerns over the "mass arming of the populace," but the right to bear arms has indeed been confirmed by numerous rulings and institutions, including the Supreme Court.
