To the best of my knowledge there is no direct competition to the TLAB cross connect . . . obviously the phone companies for years have been trying to develop their own solutions but to no avail . . . now that the 5500 is embedded into so many phone systems it has become the de facto "Unix" standard of cross connect (or at least bulls like myself hope so) that TLAB can successfully add on to for years to come . . . hence my enthusiasm for the software upgrade to 5500 due for release by year end. The big risk to the 5500 part of TLAB(and 5500 is just one part of the bull story, has anyone heard anything new re Steinbrecher?) can be found on the NN thread, that's the threat of ATM permeating the phone co's. backbones . . . to the best of my knowledge TLAB mgmt. is dismissive of the ATM threat. As previously mentioned the TLAB home page as well as their quarterly conference calls are the best places for anyone to begin.
