Your presumption is that the futures align themselves with cash....a presumption I believe to be false.

Why do you think so?

Take for example, the overnight Globex on the SnP futures. If it is down, say, 10 points, 5 will get you 10 that the DJIA will be down around 85 points within 20 minutes or so. If, at the end of the day, the futures trade down after 3 CT (when the cash markets close) you will see the SPX and OEX options trade the same way....

I see it as the spoos being the tail that wags the dog. Why do you think not? The future is always worth more than the present.
