Most of my confusion emanated from lack of clarity in the documentation on the 5gb backup on the PogoPlug server. I could not tell whether the documentation was referring to that backup system, or to the backup system on the device.

Now that I understand what 'upload' and 'download' means in this context, I have no problem either. I presume that the 'away' computer that you use to access the my.pogoplus.com site must have the software needed to open the file once you download it. For example, the 'away' computer would need MSWord to edit a Word file uploaded from the home computer.
