I posted it, I read it. Sometimes I wonder if you bother to read what you post, when your replies don't reflect what was in your posts.

"The church terrorized the scientific community for hundreds of years. That is the point."

That first sentence is another one of your vastly oversimplified generalizations. Your three examples (Copernicus, Galileo and Bruno) don't prove anything of the kind.

"The ancient Greeks didn't do that."

Bruno and Socrates both challenged the authorities to the point where they believed their authority threatened. The ancient Greeks may have been more tolerant of debate than most societies of their day, but there was no concept of freedom of speech or rights of the individual as we know it. Authority is authority, and Bruno and Socrates went too far for the authorities of their day. So what is the real difference between the reactions of the Catholic Church and the government of Athens in that respect?
