Because you cannot wrap your mind around the fact that gay rights is a civil right, and denying that, is exactly like segregation. So Chick Fil a's postion is exactly like Georgia's Lester Maddox not allowing black's in his restaurant.

It is not civil rights issue for a private individual or company who doesn't discriminate in hiring or serving to have an opinion that is against gay marriage. It is however a violation of that private individual/company's first amendment rights for local governments to deny business licenses based on personally held beliefs.

I actually do agree that gay marriage it is a civil rights issue for the government. It is about equal protection under the law. If the government is going to be in the business of marriage (a religious institution), then they cannot say that two people of different genders can get married and that two other people of the same gender cannot get married. I am against government sponsored gay marriage. I am against government sponsored marriage in general. Marriage is a religious institution. The government should be in the business of legal partnerships. Let the churches be in the business of marriage. And if a gay couple wants to get married in a particular church that doesn't support gay marriage, tough luck. The equality that we are all guaranteed is under the law, not acceptance by every person.

chick-fil-a has great food and they don't discriminate based on gender preference. This whole brouhaha is a manufactured crisis to further divide the populace and to distract from the real issue at hand, which is obama's complete failure with the economy.

I may disagree with most conservatives on the gay marriage thing, but the liberals are pathetic in their attempts to change the topic to a divisive issue.
