I disagree. As you just pointed out in another post, "marriage" has legal ramifications that only apply heterosexual couples. If the government is going to be in the business of "marriage", then they are obligated to extend it to any adult couple.

I do not believe that the solution is to extend marriage to gay couples. I believe that the solution is to cease offering marriage contracts to anybody. Instead, everyone gets a legal partnerships from the government. Marriage happens in the church. Which isn't too far from what we have now. One can get married in church now and still not be legally married
