You said my mentioning Heche as an example was a generalization with no basis in reality.

The issue about Phelps ... I think you mean that Phelps is a champion because he was born special and virtually no one else could acheive what he did. I think thats wrong too. I think Phelps is a champion because he worked and trained hard enough to become a champion and many people could emulate that if they chose.
OTOH you say choosing a different sexual practice is as hard as training for the olympics which you consider all but impossible for most people. But then when people do choose their sexuality, you can say oh, they were really bisexual. And thus explain it away. For all we know, most gays may be bisexual since lots of them start out life practicing straight sex.

why don't you tell us what percentage of gays who have sought to be straightened out have actually been "cured" of their gayness.

How would anyone know? Its a taboo to even think its possible. But clearly all the gay people who functioned as straight for a portion of their lives (and there are evidently a LOT of such people, like Karl Rove's stepdad) and later decided to become gay or that they were "really" gay or that they like gay better or something ... they all were cured of their straightness presumably.

The point is If people can decide they're "really gay" and that's legitimate, they can decide they're "really straight" also.
