I am in high tech industry and privy to a lot of bleeding edge stuff. I think outsourcing to China and India is nothing compared to what will come out of silicon valley over the next decade. Vast categories of high end skilled workers are going to be replaced by high tech solutions. As an easy example, consider that googling the right symptoms can diagnose a disease better than two-thirds of doctors out there. Or that google can provide a better and faster handle on flu than CDC experts. Now project this with the exponential growth of technology and "big data" and you can begin to imagine where we will be in 10 - 20 years. Additionally, affordable 3D printing is going to revolutionize manufacturing in amazing ways. This is already happening now, but the pace is still beneath the radar of most people. And here is another application of big data and algorithmics in an area that people thought could never be affected:
