Joseph,
The networkers have been growing in the 35%-50% range for the last
several years. CSCO is predicting the same type of growth to continue for the next several years. ASND used to be the darling of the group. The group being CSCO, COMS and ASND. They are now the turkey. Over the last several months, they have been hit again and again. Bad news following bad news with decreasing earnings. Some say they have had trouble digesting CSCC. They bought CSCC about the same time COMS was buying USRX. Some say the leadership is poor. I have had numerous friends lose a boat load on ASND. Fortunately, I got out when they had reached their zenith.

All I can say is that CPQ had better get an excellent price for ASND if there is a deal in the works. ASND by itself may survive in the future but, in my opinion, will never be the darling again. CSCO is absolutely and without a doubt, the 800lb gorilla in the networking business. COMS, with the USRX aquisition, is firmly in second place.
