I do not think it is possible for individuals to manipulate a more active stock for the sake of capping/supporting options. I am sure on the less liquid stocks where small volume can move the issue, it might happen. This is also does not mean that some players think that they can protect options/warrants/rights positions in a more active stock.

I know Graham has an opinion on this. Personally, I think it is just a justification for a movement in the stock, especially with large cap, highly liquid stocks.
