Dr Mitchell pretty much emphasizing the shear numbers of planets out there & reflecting that he's certain in his own mind that life & civilizations exist on billions of them , which was the same conclusion i reached when just 10 or 12yrs old . That one link vid/volume was terrible in another vid Buzz Aldrin writes a book many yrs later of the 'Magnificent Desolation' which his life became afterwords comparing it to the desolation of empty space & found on the moon .

I'm not sure about the little grey men out there you wish to believe in but what i am sure is that feeling of desolation & isolation is reflected in all that emptiness of space surrounding our tiny sphere and a prime cause for all the stories & myths that attempted to create a connection with an anthropomorphised being or beings who are "out there" , that we would not be so alone . ( If THEY are here am not sure what it is that really interesting about us or our civilization that would keep them hanging around , you've seen one Jack in the Box, McDonalds & Chick Fil A you've seen pretty much seen them all )
It touches upon the very core elemental wonder , fascination & terror of our being alone or not alone , something every child in us has experienced & to every group of hominids that ever lived . We're born , we live, we die in a cycle that is as irristable as any other endless cycle there but for those moments people gazed at those firing rockets going to the moon all were united by the one thing that does enoble us in the moment , that is our curiosity to know more which is why science unites, fascinates and people are so drawn to it .
* The desolation here on planet earth is so existential i think it escapes most people's attention, but has them grasping for any answers they can find , do not ever be without money is one cardinal rule (why we have the dynastys of monied wealth, clowns like Rush imbaugh & lots of bankers ! ) and fill your time with all and any escapism that will draw attention away from this . Karl Sagan mentions this idea in his book "Contact" where the alien informs the girl after travelling through the worm hole to the center of the Galaxy , that we are a very interesting species , filled with such dreams & such nightmares because we feel so alone . Little steps is all you can do , science gives us very good reasons to care . |
