How much of the PureView tech is proprietary ?
As far as I know, the software part and sensor is owned by Nokia and the optical part by Zeiss.
They have a development lead, but a determined competitor with cash ought to be able to come up with something along the same lines fairly quickly (18 months ?)
Yeah, something like that, having started the clock the second the PureView tech leaked out, which was something like six months ago or more, so make it 12 months, now.
What would be really cool would be a couple of PureView chips sharing the same processors, one with a mild telephoto stuck in front of it (what would be possible in a reasonable sized package, and how much cost would be added by the extra photo module ?).
Personally, I think they should farm out PureView to Canon, Nikon and everyone else who wants it. They'd make more impact that way - on the entire photo and video market - and more money.

I'm not at all excited about a Windows Phone version of PureView. I'd line up around the block for a PureView Canon 1DXPV! Now THAT would be a low light toy beyond belief!

On the other hand, maybe Nikon, Canon and the others are already reverse engineering the whole PureView shebang as I type - and have been for half a year - so why pay Nokia for it. ;-)
