As a user, I don't care how big the code base is (relates to another of your posts on a different forum). Anti-Microsoft zealots just don't understand how important Marketing is in determining the success of any product, be it software, toothpaste, etc. Marketing is the whole package--product, price, distribution and more.

Although the term paradigm has been grossly overused lately, it fits here. The developers are hanging on to the old paradigm.
Software has become a commodity.
