Brian: For some strange reason IBM is considered to be an overall leader in the computer industry and the WS does not find it risky to bet on it. DELL, CPQ, Boeing, INTC, AMAT and CSCO are also considered to be leaders in their respective areas.

But, the fobia for INTC and AMAT is still not completely over since they are associated with "chips." While INTC is rightly a chip maker, AMAT is an equipment maker. My prognosis is that AMAT will rise when a consensus in WS develops that AMAT, as a leader, will be helped [not adversely affected] by the competition among chip makers. IMHO, it is a good time to hang on to AMAT.
