I spoke to WD tech support today, let them listen to the drive beeping, they are sending out a refurbished drive and letting me send this one back pre-paid so it costs me nothing. I told them what I was using the drive for, using FRAPS to record game-play on my computer, it records 100% smooth to the USB 3 WD Passport drive. I tired it with another USB 3 drive, Iomega, and it's jerky and hesitates at times. So not all USB 3 drives have the same read/write speeds. All my USB 3 HDD's are 5400 RPM. They also said heat was not an issue. FWIW.
