it's probably a mistake, but i can't help chiming in here:

spend what's needed for good projects as long as it is needed. have the fed buy treasuries as much as is needed to keep the 10-year low.

the treasuries owned by the fed can be kept forever, because the interest is just recycled to the treasury. you could even have the fed write off the entire treasury portfolio.

inflation? if the fed owning treasuries was going to cause worrisome inflation why hasn't it happened? we might be in an era where the deflationary undertow is so strong that writing off the whole fed treasury portfolio won't matter.

remember; the fed cannot "run out of bullets". it can buy every single treasury and every mbs. it owes no one.

this simple fact is widely misunderstood.

p.s. the inflationists have been 100% wrong. i used to listen to the mega-idiot rick santellioroiuemi (sp?) spit and sputter and pirouette and rant about how the fed was going to cause inflation. this was years ago. imagine having a floor clerk as an econ history expert! he plays to other idiots like joe kernan.

the huge productivity increases and the internet are powerfully DEflationary.
