Some months ago I had a conversation with a man who recently ran for town mayor - as an independent. He lost. We argued about the deficit spending, the debt problem, etc. He said, "But don't you realize that significant cuts would carry heavy human costs?". My answer was that an economic crisis, which would be all but inevitable unless government expenditures are brought under control, would have far higher human costs. The guy didn't answer, but ever since when we meet he gives me strange looks. I think he may actually be doing some thinking... :)

It's not easy to defend the leftist agenda when it comes to real issues. That's why so often they simply end up... asserting that they are good and smart, and you are not.
