Trey: Another interpretation of Samsung's move is that they cannot stay competitive in this business, and would rather get out than get hurt. Remember, Intel was also a major player in the memory market until the downturn in the 80s, but Micron survived. Intel was not any less of a company than Micron was, but they did not concentrate on DRAMs and probably could not compete in that arena. As for Samsung, good luck with their DEC Alpha venture. I know it's a powerful processor, but can it compete with quad-processor Pentium Pro servers in terms of price?
