So.. till I become more edgucated by someone who lives there and knows what is really going on and why, I will reserve my final judgement till I know what I'm talking about" It will always depend on who "educates you", nearly all my iranian friends that weren't killed, left the country. I was there for two years. The understanding of culture shouldn't affect the objective standards that can be applied to a nation or its people. We could excuse anything and blame it on culture. Every thing becomes relative, I am sure that isn't what you want.
