I've never seen a campaign that was so completely rooted in positions that have been disproven as outright lies over and over. It's Karl Rove's ultimate wet dream, where campaign ads and slogans not only don't have to be based on fact, they can be the worst lies and distortions, and the campaign will still stand behind them. Personally, I think this ends badly for the Reps again. They are blazing away with all barrels and not even making a twitch in the polls. What else do they have once they have finished throwing poop, an appeal to elect them for being sweet and virtuous? Dangerous choices they are making. FWIW, Obama's approval rating has ticked up a point recently: RCP Obama vs. Romney: Obama +3.7%; 7-day change: Obama +0.2%. RCP Obama approval: 48.4%; 7-day change: +0.6%. Intrade percent chance of Obama win: 57.8%.
