I also don’t see why we cannot start the contest ASAP if that’s OK with All concerned.
I would like to suggest that we commence as from Monday the 20th. August. That would give me the weekend to put the two tables together, and those would be based on the Market closing prices on Friday the 17th. August.

In the meantime I have one or two queries/points to consider and agree on …

1) We stated that we would buy $5000 worth of each stock, be it SI or Buffett. So on Saturday we could see the price of a stock at, say, $22/share. Therefore $5000/$22 = 227.3 shares. I suggest that the number of shares purchased for any stock is the whole number component and we ignore the fraction. So in this example we would buy 227 shares.

2) At this commencement stage we do not provide a dividend contribution towards any stock. We only add dividends that are paid after the 20th. August.

3) At this stage I will put the Portfolios into 2 EXCEL spreadsheets as I did previously with the Sergio H Portfolio vs. the Buffett Portfolio. Someone told me, at the start of this challenge, that one could set up something via Yahoo ? or Google ? or …. ? I’m not sure who it was, or where they were referring to, so maybe a suggestion in that regard could be forthcoming.

4) The Total Percentage Gain for a Portfolio at any stage will be the algebraic sum of the following for each stock :-

[(the number of shares purchased at the close on the 17th. August multiplied by the price on a day plus total dividend paid to date multiplied by shares purchased) divided by (the number of shares purchased at the close on the !7th. August multiplied by the price on the 17th. August)] -1 x 100 to give a percentage.

Initial Purchase :-

200 shares x $25 = $5000
333 shares x $15 = $4995
….
….
104 shares x $48 = $4992

Total Purchase for 10 stocks = (say) $49 900

Portfolio Update :-

(200 shares x $30) + (200 shares x $1 div.) = $6200
(333 shares x $20) + (333 x $2.00 div.) = $7326
….
…..
(104 shares x $55) + (104 shares x $3 div.) = $6032

Total Update for 10 stocks = (say) $65 100

Portfolio Percentage Gain = (($65100/$49900)-1) x 100 = 30.46%

5) Anything else that anyone can think of ?
