Seems to me that's sort of what they've been working at conditioning the market to expect... with their having announced a scaled back "small event" focus in "releasing" the new products... incrementally ?

I don't know how they expect to make a "big splash" in the market this fall... by sneaking into the pool using the kiddie steps...

So, I agree with you... in thinking that a lot of what NOK is putting up right now is looking like its pure bluffing... which they seem not to do very well... perhaps on a par with their skills in "taunting"...

I think it is actually likely to end up hurting them all that much more... because they made the effort they have in "fluffing" the numbers in the last Q...

If that's all correct... and what we see in the events that do unfold is roughly what you've suggested ?

That should have the next Q coming out... showing the numbers getting much worse than many expect... while also revealing the fact of the effort in "fluffing" in the prior Q... at roughly the same time the wheels are coming off the effort in braggadocio apparent in the recent chest thumping exercises...

And, how do they recover market credibility... if that all plays out that way ?

If Windows 8 isn't a "solution"... and they're not able to create big enough solutions of their own fast enough by building around it... faster than their competitors are going to be building in new capabilities and new features ?

Looks to me like they've set things up in a way that only creates MORE of an existential risk out of the same situation... than would exist if they'd just been more deliberately honest about how horribly bad things really were at the end of the last Q...

They should have tried to push more ugliness... as much as possible... into the last Q... instead of fluffing it.

I don't really see any fall back positions in an "adjustment" that gets made to that situation now... that doesn't depend on them trying to burn cash trying to dramatically alter the pricing dynamic in the market... just trying to keep them alive for another product cycle... by making up on volume what they're losing in profit... while hoping the next product development round generates "a hit"...

If the new product is not "all that" but is "close enough" to the competitors... it's possible they could buy some time by extending what we saw them doing with the 900 recently, launching a major price war... burning through cash while dragging all the phone makers down into the lower margin space where they're apparently more comfortable than their competitors are... ?

Of course... maybe they'll surprise us and come up with something that actually knocks everyone's socks off... and outclasses the Samsung and Apple offerings in features and performance ?
