Richard what I'm after is trying to find common ground on which people of different cultures can rationally have a starting point for meaningful dialogue. For me its not a quest to find out who is right or wrong but rather to understand what makes the other side tick as it where. I don't want to assume I know what's going on in Saddams head for instance. I don't want to assume what motivates people who have been enemies to suddenly unite under a ban of religious fundamentalism against the satan's of the West as they refer to us. I want to hear the real reason why they feel this way. I want to hear it... whether I give it the time of day is another entire issue. I'm tired of the propoganda and the sound bite we are all subjected to. I thought it may be interesting to seek the truth on my own by going to the source. If you wnat to know what its like being in the frying pan... speak to someone who has been in it ! :-) What is it we Americans do that these people feel is so out of line. I don't know? I would like to get an objective point of view from someone other than a TV commentator for a change. Is it something we can do something about or is it much deeper than all htat. personally I think much of this is culturally based. But... I don't know! Since I am not a part of that culture I think it would be better for me to here it from someone who is part of it than from Dan Rather on the evening news. Once I hear it I may think they are crazy as a wolf howling at a full moon but at least I would feel comfortable knowing the method of their madness. There is a big difference in understanding ones point of view and agreeing with it. I'm not saying I want to necessarily agree with what they are doing. I just want to try to understand why they are doing it. My life does not revolve around religion and I have never had a King rule over me. I am just looking for imput from someone who can say they have experienced such things first hand.
