8/17/12 Contest Update
Am back from a very mellow Portland where they don’t put fluoride in the water. Could there be a connection? For the two weeks since my last update stocks made a decent comeback, with Contest portfolios doing especially well.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 35.66% YTD (vs. up 29.33% YTD two weeks ago). In comparison, the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 27.66% YTD (vs. up 27.04% YTD two weeks ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 18.10% YTD (vs. up 13.92% YTD two weeks ago).
Spiking into the Contest lead is Misty May-Treanor! Well, actually, it’s the Biotech Charity Contest’s own multi-Gold Medal winner who is now in first place. Yes, it’s RKRW's portfolio, up 83.54% YTD. Falling back to second place is DONS’ portfolio, up 81.77% YTD and ROBERT’s portfolio, up 71.85% YTD, has moved into third place.
At Friday's close, just 3 of the 38 Contest portfolios were in the red, with 23 of the 38 portfolios beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week.
(Foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in the weekly and YTD Top 5 & Bottom 5 tables, when posted.)
Portfolio adjustments: AMLN buyout by Bristol-Myers at $31 closed. AMLN was only held by CLARK’s portfolio and I used 8/10/12 closing prices for the reallocation.
Have a wonderful weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
