Interesting. I have become a repeat customer for several of the businesses I bought Groupons for. Groupon allowed me to try some things at low risk, and then i went back, because it was excellent. But I guess if most people are not doing that, it would suck for the businesses- unless they make enough on the no-shows.

And I like the fact the Groupons expire. It makes me hustle a little- to get things done. I don't know about other families, but ours is busy, and sometimes, on the weekends, the temptation is just to veg, or to do things around the house. Groupon has got us out and about a lot more than we ever were out and about before- and we've had so much fun. I hope Groupon is one of the survivors- because me husband and I, and our family, have had 13 great trips with Groupon and living Social (though we now pretty much just do Groupon- because of their customer support), and we've discovered so many cool things! I think we've taken 9 tours of SF now. 4 walking tours (and we've got one more to go!), and one bridge tour, and 4 other tours- by land and sea. I've lived in the Bay Area since 1985, but we have had more fun in the last 2 years with Groupon, then in all our previous years.

I'm sure there must be a way to make it work for everyone. And fwiw, the merchants i've dealt with have been 95% amazing. Great people. Maybe because we spend more than the value of our groupon, and maybe because we are patient, and maybe because we tip well, but still- it's been an incredibly positive experience for us.
