So what? It's going up.

So, its not the driving force behind the expansion of big government, deficits, and/or the debt, since the spending is on a long term (mufti-generation) downturn as a percentage of the economy, and of federal spending. None of which is an argument against defense cutbacks (or for them), but to get control of the fiscal problems we have to go where the big money is, which is entitlements.
