I think there are a lot of unknowns in this area... but what I do
understand of is does not suggest that it will be "cheap", but
rather inexpensive on a cost per megabyte basis. Just look at the media costs for Iomega's products... These are the closest products that I can imagine the NFR technology can be immediately applied to. The unknown is what will the media cost... my guess is since it is new technology then it will probably cost more. But that's only a guess. I don't believe that it will be offered on a *flexible* media type, and that means that it is not likely to be as cost competitive as tape.
But theres a lot of distance in price between a DLT drive (or any high capacity tape drive drive for that matter) and a ZIPP drive... and that is where I think a NFR drive will first appear.

Again, this is all strictly conjecture on my part...
